Just as God previously foretold, the region became ravaged by famine, but owing to his willingness to listen to his Lord, Joseph was able to plan for and execute a plan that would spare Egypt from the wrath of nature. By anticipating and saving for the lean times as Joseph prescribed, Egypt was able to endure without much hardship and neighboring civilizations took notice. It is during this momentous event that Joseph was presented with a chance opportunity to come face to face with his brothers, the same undesirables who had initially planned to kill, but ultimately decided to sell Joseph into slavery.

Allen Pittman, the world renowned martial arts practitioner and teacher who has had the privilege of protecting the Dalai Lama during his visits to the United States, will be traveling to Blackheath, London in early May to conduct a Wisdom of the Body workshop for the benefit of all those who are interested in concepts and experiences relating to the body and its interplay with the martial arts. Mr. Pittman will be conducting the event beginning on Saturday, May 7 and will conclude the following day with the application of the ideas learned from day one to classical martial arts such as Bagua, Hsing i or Shaolin. Bagua, or Ba Gua as represented in some literature, is a martial arts discipline characterized by walking in a circular pattern. Ba Gua differs from other martial arts styles in that it focuses a lot of attention on grappling, pulling, and hitting. The movements prescribed by Ba Gua are not necessary lethal, which makes it a preferred choice for individuals who need to impose order using the least damaging approach possible. With God as his guide and inspiration, Joseph kept it together, and managed to continue his virtuous ways. Temptation and morality, front and center in the lives of children today given the peer pressure enabled by technology that enables instantaneous communication with thousands of peers in a never-ending social network, is addressed in a powerful way in Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife.

Joseph ends up in prison as we see in the story Joseph in prison. The story “Jacob’s Ladder” continues on with the theme of danger many will face if they don’t follow the word of God. Jacob, having exercised self-exile to avoid the wrath of his brother whom he had deceived, finds himself dreaming of a ladder that connects heaven and earth, a ladder employed by the Angels to ascend and descend. Atop the ladder is the Lord himself. In his dream, Jacob communicates with God and comes away convinced that there is only one true God, and that everything great and small was created by God. More importantly, he learns that even though his treachery has betrayed God’s will, God is still willing to provide him with an opportunity to fulfill God’s design on his life. With those lessons learned, Jacob commemorates the moment by anointing a rock with oil, and calling the place “Bethel.”
